What changed
Starlink announced a new home router, Router 4, in a post on X on Sep 9, 2026, as reported by Tesla North the same day. It is the first Starlink router built on a Wi-Fi 7 chipset. Starlink’s post, as quoted: “Router 4 is the first Starlink router with a Wi-Fi 7 chipset, built for streaming, gaming, and everyday use.”
The stated indoor coverage is up to 3,500 square feet (325 square metres), with faster peak speeds than earlier models. Starlink said it will be available soon in select areas and pointed people to an email sign-up for updates. It did not give a price, a ship date or a country list.

Announced Sep 9, 2026. No availability date has been published. We have not seen Router 4 listed on a US order page as of Oct 6, 2026.
Who is affected
Future buyers of a Starlink Residential kit, and current customers curious about an upgrade. Referrers and the referral terms are not affected.
What it means for you
A new router doesn’t change what a referral gives either person. The new customer’s reward is one month of service credit on the plan they choose; it is never money off hardware. That stays true whichever router ships in the box.
If your friend is waiting for Router 4 before ordering, that is their call; there is no deadline on a referral link. Your link stays the same, and it still has to be the link they use when they order on starlink.com.
What to do now
Nothing. If a friend asks whether to wait, the honest answer is that Starlink hasn’t said when or where Router 4 ships, or what it costs. Current customers can sign up for Starlink’s email updates if they want to hear first.
What stays the same
Plans, prices, the referral reward and the free month are unchanged. Your referral link does not change when hardware does.
What we don’t know yet
Price, ship date, which kits will include Router 4, whether current customers can buy it separately, and whether it will reach the US first. Tesla North’s report is our only source and it relies on Starlink’s own post.

Starlink’s announcement was a post on its X account on Sep 9, 2026, quoted by Tesla North. To see whether Router 4 is offered at a given address, start an order on starlink.com and look at the kit description before paying; the order page, not a press report, says what will ship. Until a price appears there, any figure you see elsewhere is unconfirmed.
