Quick answer
Share your link with people who ask for it, and only the link. No ads, no cold messages, no posts where nobody asked, no claiming to work for Starlink. Breaking a rule can cost more than future rewards: breaking a sharing rule can mean disqualification and forfeiting pending or issued rewards.

| Method | Verdict | Why | Clause |
|---|---|---|---|
| Sending your link to a friend or relative who asked for it | Allowed The terms say so | The terms leave whether, when and how to share up to you, and someone who asked you isn’t unsolicited contact. | §6.3, §6.4(c) |
| Showing the QR code or link from your app to someone in person who wants it | Allowed The terms say so | It’s the same link, shared with someone who asked. Let them type their own details on starlink.com. | §6.3, §6.4(h) |
| Emailing or texting your whole contact list | Not allowed The terms say so | Unsolicited contact “of any kind” is banned, and you’d need a consent record for every person, kept for five years. | §6.4(c) |
| Posting your link in Reddit threads, Facebook groups or forums | Not allowed Our reading of the terms | Dropping a link where nobody asked for it is the kind of unsolicited contact the terms ban, and many communities remove referral posts. Answer questions there without the link. | §6.4(c) |
| Messaging strangers or replying to comments with your link | Not allowed The terms say so | Contacting people who didn’t ask is unsolicited contact. | §6.4(c) |
| Running or boosting ads that lead to your link, even through your own page | Not allowed The terms say so | Paid advertising that sends traffic to a referral link “directly or indirectly” is banned, including boosted social posts. | §6.4(j) |
| Bidding on “Starlink” or a misspelling in search ads | Not allowed The terms say so | Using Starlink or SpaceX terms, misspellings or close variants in any paid media is banned, with or without a link. | §6.4(j) |
| Listing your link on coupon, deal or referral-exchange sites | Not allowed Our reading of the terms | The terms don’t name these sites, but it puts Starlink’s name on third-party pages built to push sign-ups, which the brand clause and the no-misleading-claims rule are aimed at. | §6.4(b), §6.4(a) |
| Putting your link on your own website or blog | Risky Our reading of the terms | Nothing bans a website, but the brand clause bars using Starlink names or domain names “in any manner” without written consent. Asking SpaceX for written consent first is the safe route. This site is in the same position, and says so on its money page. | §6.4(b), §6.3 |
| Calling yourself a Starlink rep, or saying you work with Starlink | Not allowed The terms say so | You may not present yourself as SpaceX staff or as connected to the company in any way. | §6.4(f), §6.2 |
| Placing the order for someone, or taking their payment | Not allowed The terms say so | Referrers can’t negotiate, sell or take payment on SpaceX’s behalf. The new customer orders on starlink.com themselves. | §6.4(g), §6.2 |
| Asking for someone’s address to check availability for them | Not allowed The terms say so | Referrers may share only the link and must send people to starlink.com to enter their own information. | §6.4(h) |
| Offering to split your reward or pay the new customer to use your link | Risky Our reading of the terms | The terms don’t mention it. It sits close to negotiating with a prospective customer, and SpaceX can cancel rewards it sees as abuse. | §6.4(g), §5.1 |
| Referring your own second account or a new account in your household’s name | Not allowed The terms say so | Extra accounts made to earn rewards are banned, and the new customer must never have been a subscriber. | §6.4(d), §3.1 |
| Pitching your link to people in financial hardship | Not allowed The terms say so | People experiencing hardship or other vulnerability don’t qualify, and targeting them is banned. | §6.4(e), §3.1 |
| Flyers, mailbox drops or community bulletin boards | Not allowed Our reading of the terms | It’s contact nobody asked for, and it usually puts Starlink’s name on printed material. | §6.4(c), §6.4(b) |
The ten rules in plain words
Section 6.4 of the Referral Program Terms. Each line is our plain version; the clause letter matches the terms.
- no false or misleading claims about Starlink or the program
- no use of SpaceX or Starlink names, logos, domain names or other brand features without written consent
- no unsolicited contact of any kind; keep consent records for five years
- no extra accounts or other ways around the eligibility rules
- no targeting of vulnerable people
- never present yourself as working for, or being connected to, SpaceX or Starlink
- no selling, negotiating or taking payment on SpaceX's behalf
- don't collect a prospect's personal data; share only the link and send them to starlink.com
- don't reuse personal information collected for another purpose unless privacy law allows it
- no paid ads that send traffic to a referral link, directly or indirectly, and no bidding on Starlink or SpaceX terms
The exact wording of the two clauses most people trip over:
“Engage in unsolicited contact with any prospective subscribers of any kind. The Referrer is solely responsible for obtaining and maintaining a record of consent before sending any commercial electronic message or otherwise contacting prospective Referred Subscribers. Such records must be maintained for five years from each contact and submitted to SpaceX upon request.”
“Purhase, place, or otherwise run paid advertising (including search, social, display, native, or similar) that directs traffic, directly or indirectly, to a referral link; or bid, or use in paid media, Starlink, SpaceX, or related brand terms, including misspellings and close variants.”
Can your account be closed?
Your place in the program can be. Under the terms, a sharing violation can lead to disqualification, forfeited pending or issued rewards, and losing cash eligibility. Two duties sit outside section 6 and catch people out: you must answer any SpaceX information request within 24 hours (or the deadline it gives), and by submitting a referral you certify it meets every eligibility rule.
This site and the same rules
This site is an independent website about the program, so the brand and website questions above apply to it too. It runs no ads, contacts nobody, collects no personal data, and shows a referral link only when its owner has made a consent decision. How this site makes money.
Questions people ask
Can my account be closed for sharing my referral link the wrong way?
Your participation in the program can be. A violation of the sharing rules can mean immediate disqualification, forfeiting pending or already-issued rewards, and losing the cash option. The terms describe those program consequences; they don’t say your internet service is cut off.
Can I post my referral link on Reddit or Facebook?
We don’t recommend it. Dropping a link where nobody asked for it is unsolicited contact, which the terms ban “of any kind,” and many communities remove referral posts. Answer questions there without the link.
Can I put my link on my own website?
Nothing bans websites, but the terms bar using Starlink or SpaceX names, logos or domain names “in any manner” without written consent. Asking SpaceX for written consent first is the safe route.
Can I run ads for my referral link?
No. Paid advertising that sends traffic to a referral link, directly or indirectly, is banned, and so is using Starlink or SpaceX terms in any paid media.
What does “keep consent records for five years” mean?
If you contact anyone about Starlink beyond people who asked you, the terms make you responsible for having their consent first and keeping a record of it for five years, to hand to SpaceX on request.
