What changed
Starlink reorganised its US home plans by speed. Benzinga (Jan 17, 2026) reported the lineup as Residential 100 Mbps at $50 a month, Residential 200 Mbps at $80, and Residential Max at $120, with Max described as “max speeds, comes with free Starlink Mini Kit for travel.” satelliteinternet.com (Jan 14, 2026) reported that Residential Lite was renamed Residential 200 Mbps, the old Residential plan became Residential Max, a 100 Mbps tier returned in select regions, and Roam 50GB became Roam 100GB at the same price.
The satelliteinternet.com page has since been updated with later prices, so we use Benzinga’s January figures. Prices rose in June; see our June post.
When
January 2026, per reports of Jan 14 and Jan 17, 2026. Starlink didn’t publish a launch date, so the date is approximate. This post is more than 90 days old and is kept as background.
Who is affected
New and existing US Residential and Roam customers. Referrers and referred friends are affected only through plan names.
What it means for you
All the new tier names are on Starlink’s list of referral-eligible plans: Residential 100 Mbps, Residential 200 Mbps and Residential Max, alongside the older Residential and Residential Lite names and Roam 100GB, 300GB and Unlimited. A friend can pick any of them and the referral can count.
The free month is one month of whichever plan they choose, so its value depends on the tier. The free Mini with Max is a hardware perk from Starlink, not part of the referral.
What to do now
If your own notes or messages to friends still say “Residential” or “Residential Lite”, update them to the tier names your friend will see on the order page.
What stays the same
The referral reward, the free month and the eligibility rules.
What we don’t know yet
Whether the Mini offer with Max is still available everywhere; reports since January describe it in different ways.
How to check it yourself
The current plan names and prices appear on starlink.com when you start a Residential order. Starlink’s help article “How do I use a referral link?” lists the plan names that count for a referral; on our Oct 5, 2026 check it included the three speed tiers and the older Residential and Residential Lite names. Our glossary explains the other terms used on the order page.
