What changed
About two weeks after US referrers gained a cash option, Starlink said customers in many other countries can now earn cash for referrals too. Basenor, a retailer blog, quotes Starlink’s post on X of Sep 4, 2026: “The person you refer gets one month free of Starlink service and you get paid.” Basenor lists the UK, Australia, Canada and Mexico among the markets and reports a Canadian amount of $140 per referral. Xataka Móvil, a Spanish tech site, reported the same day that the program reached most countries where Starlink sells service, including Spain.
This is a press report: two outlets, one of them a retailer. We have not read the post on X directly.
When
Sep 4, 2026, the date of Starlink’s post as cited by Basenor (article dated Sep 3, updated Sep 4) and of Xataka Móvil’s article. The US cash option itself dates to around the week of Aug 21, 2026; see our earlier post.
Who is affected
Starlink customers outside the US who refer people in their own country. For US readers it matters mainly if you have friends or family abroad: it tells you there may now be a program where they live, run under that country’s terms.
What it means for you
Nothing about the US program changes. The US terms still require the new customer’s service address to be in the same country as the referrer’s, so a US link still can’t earn a reward for a friend in Canada or Mexico, and a Canadian’s link can’t earn one for a US address.
What changes is the advice for a friend abroad. Instead of using your US link, which won’t count, they can ask someone in their own country for a link, if that country’s program pays out. Amounts differ by country, and each account shows its own figure.
What to do now
US referrers: nothing to do. If a friend outside the US asks for your link, explain the same-country rule and point them to someone local. Don’t post your link in international groups hoping it will work; it won’t, and posting to groups can break the sharing rules anyway.
What stays the same
The US $100 example reward, credit as the default with cash as an opt-in, the free month on the new customer’s second bill, the two-billing-cycle stay and the same-country rule.
What we don’t know yet
The full country list, each country’s amount, and whether every listed country offers cash or only credit. Xataka’s report says Spanish customers should check their account for the amount. We haven’t seen non-US terms documents, and we don’t cover them.
How to check it yourself
The announcement is on Starlink’s X account, dated Sep 4, 2026, as quoted by Basenor. A customer in another country can check their own account’s Referrals section, which shows whether cash is offered there and the amount. For US readers, the US Referral Program Terms on starlink.com still contain the same-country requirement; search the document for “same country” to read it yourself.
