What changed
Starlink changed how its Roam plans work outside the customer’s home country, according to RV Mobile Internet (Jul 15, 2026) and Drive Tesla Canada (Jul 16, 2026):
Roam Unlimited is limited to 30 days at a time outside the home country or grouped region, down from 60 days. Roam 100GB and Roam 300GB can only be used in the home country or region. The Global Roam plan is discontinued. Local Priority can extend international use to 60 days in total. And the United States and Canada are treated as one region, so a US customer driving into Canada no longer counts as travelling abroad. Drive Tesla Canada quotes the customer notice: “USA & Canada are now treated as one country for the Roam plan.”
When
The changes applied to new customers from Jul 14, 2026 (Global Roam closed to new customers by Jul 15) and to existing customers from Aug 17, 2026, per both reports.
Who is affected
US RV owners, travellers and anyone on a Roam plan who takes it abroad. US referrers on Roam are affected only if they travel outside the US–Canada region for long stretches.
What it means for you
Roam stays inside the referral program. Starlink’s help article still lists Roam 100GB, Roam 300GB and Roam Unlimited as plans a referred customer can choose, and a referral still needs two full billing cycles on a high-speed plan.
The travel rules don’t change the same-country rule. A referral counts when the new customer’s service address is in the same country as the referrer’s. The US–Canada travel region is about where a Roam kit can be used, not about who can refer whom: a Canadian friend still needs a Canadian link.
What to do now
If you refer RV friends, tell them the current limits before they order, so a travel plan doesn’t clash with the two-billing-cycle stay. If you’re on Roam yourself and spend long periods abroad, check your plan page for the day count.
What stays the same
Roam plans remain referral-eligible, the referral reward and free month are unchanged, and referrals still only count within one country.
What we don’t know yet
Whether the Roam 100GB and 300GB prices changed alongside the rules (the reports focus on usage), whether more countries will be grouped into regions, and how Starlink counts days that start in one region and end in another.
How to check it yourself
Starlink’s help center covers travelling with Roam, and the two reports we cite quote Starlink’s customer notice; check your own account for the notice and its dates. For referral eligibility, the help article “How do I use a referral link?” lists the Roam plans that count. Check both before a long trip with a newly referred friend.
